What is RAM?
If your computer were your brain, RAM (Random Access Memory) would be how much you can think about at one time. The processor determines how fast you can think and change between thoughts. On a Windows’ computer go to the start menu, choose “Computer”, then “Properties.” Find the “System Properties” window, and look for “Installed memory”. On a Mac go to the Apple menu at top left corner and choose “About this Mac.” Run a Disk Cleanup to make sure you don’t have any unnecessary files slowing you down. If the Available option is less than 25 percent of the total, you should probably upgrade your RAM.
How much RAM do you need?
Once you determine that you need an upgrade, then consider how you want to use your computer. While light office use can be accommodated with anywhere from 2-4 GB, most gaming systems need at least 8 GB and sometimes 16 GB.
